WhatsApp API - disable link preview thumbnails in messages

When you send a freeform text with a link, you send it to Meta with link preview enabled (preview_url on), and that's hardcoded on you side, there's no parameter in the send body to disable it. So any URL in the message body will render its thumbnail.

This shipped on 18 August 2026. Send linkPreview: false in the JSON body of POST /v1/inbox/conversations/{conversationId}/messages (it is also accepted on POST /v1/inbox/conversations when you open a conversation with a Direct Send text), and we pass preview_url: false through to Meta's Cloud API so the URL stays plain text with no thumbnail card. It defaults to true, which is how every WhatsApp text was sent before this, and it is ignored on other platforms. One detail worth knowing: the field is read from the JSON body only, not from multipart requests.
